Saranies… Saran Wraps.
While everyone was out surfing Chopes we’ve been going up here in my Mad Max boat for the last few years and surfing this place by ourselves. There’s no channel and there’s a lot of closeouts, but we all got our best waves of the trip up there this year. Barca got a good one, Andy got a good one, Occ, everyone who went up there got one or two sick ones. It’s just a good to get away from Chopes with 50 guys out. It’s the easiest funnest wave, real shallow though.
We’ve surfed it for the last three years and been keeping it real low key. The trick is to drive up there on the inside of the pass so no one at Chopes sees you go up there. We were coming back and everyone would ask, “How was it up there?” and we’d go, “Nah, shitty.” We’d come back home and sneak inside and start looking at the photos and the footage and we’d all be frothing. There were a hundreds of little four foot barrels, just so much fun.
We did it real perfect this year, until Smelly Skater came up on a jet ski and sniffed it out. I come out of this sweet little barrel and I flick off the back and look down the line and I catch this thing in the corner of my eye, a jet ski. It was like Waterworld within two hours. Raimana World – Raimana’s boat – turned up, a heap of jet skis, four photographers. These shots are from our last morning surf by ourselves, before Kelly turned up and the place went to the dogs.
