STILL FILTHY WORLD PREMIERE, HARD ROCK HOTEL, SAN DIEGO
I’d only seen my section small on a little Vimeo account a few weeks before the premiere night, so this was the first time I’d seen it cut to music and on the big screen. I sat there with Andy and watched it and we both loved it. I’m the kind of guy who likes surf movies with surfing. I’m not so big on the interviews. I really think the best surf movies ever have the best surfing action. Even Searching For Tom Curren. It was a pretty deep movie, but even then it didn’t have too much dialogue, just Curren talking over a few of his waves. Mind you, with Curren you’re probably not going to get much talking anyway I suppose.
My favourite part of the movie had to be that Kirra session at the end. It was just phenomenal. And the fact that Louie and I surfed for hours and hours that day and me and they only shot a couple of hours. I just watched it and thought of the hundreds of other incredible waves we got that day. Some of the best waves were there before they started shooting. It was breaking like that all day.
I didn’t know I had the last section. I’d heard Taj had it. After that air I saw him land in Bali, the one that won him best manoeuvre at the Surfer Poll, I thought he had to have it for sure. Then a few days before I was hearing rumours I had it, but I sat down to watch it with no idea.
